CONGRATULATIONS to a Bear Creek High School teacher, Jose A. Martinez III, for winning the national Milken Educator Award. This very prestigious award is given to fewer than 40 teachers a year, and Mr. Martinez is the only Colorado winner this year. Martinez was awarded $25,000 for his outstanding work as an educator.
Chatfield High School Principal Dr. Wendy Rubin was presented with Jefferson County Sheriff’s highest civilian honor. The Citizen Commendation Award was presented to Dr. Rubin for her brave and swift action to save a student’s life.
At Manning High School a social studies teacher, Jolene Onorati, was honored as the 2013 Colorado History Teacher of the Year by the Colorado Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Congrats to the Pomona High School Theatre Program for its repeat performance in winning the Outstanding School Award presented by the Education Theatre Association. Internationally, only five schools have ever received this award more than once.
Way to go Wheat Ridge High School boy’s lacrosse team, the new 4A State Champions.
Congrats to Stein and Edgewater Elementary schools on receiving Great Schools Awards from the Foundations for Great Schools. Only seven elementary schools received this award for their outstanding work serving low-income children.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Buhr for receiving the 2013 Colorado Art Educator of the Year. This award is given annually to teachers who display exemplary detection to their students and their work and is awarded by the Colorado Art Education Association.
Congratulations to Teacher Steve Westra of Ute Meadows Elementary School for earning the 9Teachers Who Care award last September.
Congratulations to a Columbine High School senior, Bernard McDondle, for his award winning long jump in the Spring 5A Track and Field events. Both McDondle and his coach, Ivory Moore, were honored at a Jefferson County School Board meeting.
